Diversity
As a Hispanic educator, I know that teachable moments will occur at anytime during the school day and year. I am even more sensitive to the diversity of my classroom because of my cultural background. I have found that everyone comes from a different place and I will allow for reflection through journal entries throughout the school year. My class will be setup to celebrate cultural holidays and research different cultures and backgrounds in all aspects of my teaching. Multicultural education examines ways that teachers can compliment and enhance learning through a student’s culture. I will be developing a customized learning environment which will allow for student skills and knowledge to develop from different perspectives. To model this behavior for my students, I will expand my knowledge base of different cultures and ethnicity’s by researching the differences and incorporating them into our lessons and activities, as well as, probing students to relate their own backgrounds in our learning activities.
