My Philosophy
In our classroom students will have a voice in the decisions that are made. We will begin the year with a class discussion of what our rules and consequences will be. Students will own the power of responsibility they contribute to our classroom. This feeling of ownership will lead to respect for the classroom rules. Student ownership will also support other aspects of a well-managed classroom. I will assign student’s in-classroom "jobs" such as cleaning up work stations, taking the attendance, or putting together absentee packets, these few examples will allow for growth and responsibility.
"Respect is a requirement for a well managed classroom" said William Glasser, a theorist whose foundation lies in giving student’s choice. I plan to allow flexibility for my students to devise their goals, plans, actions, and reflections. As the teacher in the classroom I will guide their learning and allow for them to reflect consistently. I believe a classroom founded on respect creates an open and safe environment where the students can have free-exchange of ideas with one another and the teacher.
I believe that setting up the classroom connection between student and teacher from the very beginning will suit the foundation for the rest of the year. Consistency will be implemented in my classroom. Once the rules and consequences are established students will be held accountable to them. The respect of one another, our classroom, and our learning are of upmost importance in our classroom, at all times.
